Ahmed Ali Akbar has been in front of a camera since he was a teenager, but it is the work of his thirties that has made him one of the most respected actors of his generation. In 2021 he led Parizaad, the biggest hit in Hum TV's history, and the industry has treated him differently ever since.

Quick facts

  • Born: 1986
  • Profession: Actor
  • Known for: Parizaad, Ehd-e-Wafa, Laal Kabootar

An early start

Akbar made his television debut in 1999, at the age of thirteen, in PTV's drama Stop Watch, and later appeared in the 2013 film Siyaah. His professional acting career began in 2014, and a run of supporting roles followed before the industry began to see what leading men could look like when they were built on range rather than gloss.

Parizaad

In Parizaad (2021), Akbar played the titular character, a quiet, poetry-loving man navigating a world that keeps underestimating him. The serial became a cultural event, with its hero's verses quoted across social media, and it won him a shelf of awards and the kind of recognition that comes once in a career.

Range and next steps

Ehd-e-Wafa had already shown his ensemble instincts, and the film Laal Kabootar demonstrated that his intensity translated to the big screen. Today he is one of the first names producers consider for difficult, interior roles, and the standard he set with Parizaad now follows him into every new script.

He continues to choose characters over categories.
