Amna Ilyas started as a model and became one of the most interesting acting careers in Pakistani cinema, choosing films that other leading ladies often pass on and making them her own.

Quick facts

  • Born: 1990
  • Profession: Actress, model
  • Known for: Zinda Bhaag, Good Morning Karachi, Saat Din Mohabbat In, Baaji, Ready Steady No

From the runway to the frame

Ilyas began modelling at around twenty and moved into acting in 2013, and her first films established the pattern: Zinda Bhaag (2013) and Good Morning Karachi (2014) were both independent-minded projects that put her among the most expressive young faces of Pakistani cinema's revival years.

The wider screen

She went on to appear in Saat Din Mohabbat In (2018), one of the biggest Eid releases of its year, and in Baaji (2019) and Ready Steady No (2019), two films that showed completely different sides of her range. Her work has also stretched across streaming and a long list of television dramas, including the popular Tum Mere Paas Raho.

The range test

The through-line in everything she does is expressiveness: Ilyas acts with her whole face, and directors use her for moments that need to land without dialogue. That quality has kept her in demand across every format the industry has invented, from cinema to series to streaming.

She remains one of the most reliable choices for anyone casting a woman with an inner life.
